The Artists, by David M. Brown

I've always loved to write about the Artist's condition. I wrote thousands and thousand pages about, mainly to avoid to think how crazy I am, to understand and accept my compulsive obsession. So many people told me to stop...

Do we born Artist ? After 100 interviews, yes, I'm sure.

Do we have to suffer to create ? Maybe not, but often yes. Creation is a daily fight, still more in these times of neo-puritanism. A fight against ourself, and against all these "normal" people who want us to join their "normal" way of life, if something "normal" exists on this earth.

Is this world would be the same without all these women and men who gave/give/will give their entire life to their art ? No, of course.

Can we make something else ? No. It's beyond our control.

The Artists show us the best of Humanity and their creativity combined with an incredible faith proove us how much we're closer to the divine than we believe.

It's the reason why I'm so devoted to all those who create without fear, so far beyond themselves, and sometimes in very difficult conditions (another reason for me to promote their books, their calendars, their work).

So here is a wonderful text written by David M. Brown, photographer, dedicated to the Artists. His words sounds so well that I can't resist to the immense pleasure to publish it.

The Artist
written By David M. Brown

The artists... They have laid before humanity the stones which have anchored every step it has taken. For it is they who have painted the portraits and fresco’s, penned the words that told the stories and sang the songs of battles won and lost.

They have become the geological record equivalent of the human mind and the human heart. Layer upon layer they have documented the past, strive to record the present, and give rise to hope for the future.

Never has this been more true than it is today in the world of photography. We have the ability to reach out to millions electronically in nearly an instant. To deliver breath taking sunsets, sensual lines and curves or emotive expressions and ideas directly into the eyes, hearts, and minds of a total stranger half a world away. And to do so in little more than the blink of an eye.

We are the dreamers, shapers, singers and makers.
And we will never be understood. Hell, most of the time we don’t even understand what drives us to create. We only know that we have to.

I have been called addle brained and foolhardy. My own artistic endeavors rarely generates any sort income. But then again monetary gain has never been the driving force in any worthy venture.

As we stand in awe at the downward spiral of the current global economy we must always remember. That while those around us seek to salvage their investment portfolio or shore up the sagging automotive and real-estate markets that these are things of worth, they are transitory.

It will fall to us, the artists, to provide the world with something of value.

Because in the final analysis when the cars stop running and the houses have all been torn down and rebuilt again and again.

What we... the artists create... endures.
